Step #6… Do better Marketing
You might be surprised to find marketing all the way down here at number six 🤔
Contrary to popular belief, it’s not always the first place to look for improvement in your business.
Having said that, there are some important questions you need to ask yourself about marketing;
✅ Where do your leads (also referred to as enquiries) come from?
✅ How many do you actually receive each month?
✅ Which strategy generates the most contacts?
✅ The most proposal requests?
✅ The most customers?
✅ Most revenue?
✅ Most profitable work?
If you can’t answer all these questions, then you’re not getting the best return on your marketing time and money.
Consider this example.
If I told you to give me £10,000 for an investment idea and in 12 months’ time I might give you a possible return on your investment, would you do it?
What if I also told you I wasn’t even going to give you back the initial £10,000?
Most people would consider me a thief at worst, a dreamer at best, and yet time and time again, this is what intelligent business owners are doing with their marketing.
Pouring, on average around £10,000 every year into marketing and advertising that, at best, returns their initial investment and at worst…well they don’t really see anything for it at all.
One very simple way to change this is to measure your marketing.
How?
Simply by asking every single enquiry how they first heard about your business, record their answer, tally it up every month and analyse what it tells you.
There’s a fair chance you’ll identify some strategies that are working and some that are doing nothing.
Turn off the one’s that aren’t working, reinvest in the ones that are and you’ve improved your profits and cashflow in less than 30 days.
You might also want to consider what marketing you’re doing and whether it’s attracting the right type of leads for you. Is it aimed at your ideal customers?
You do this by figuring out who your best customers are now, how they found you (or you found them) and then adjusting your marketing to put more of your messages in front of those people and not in front of the ones you don’t want.
