Bohemian Rhapsody was one of the big winners at this year’s Oscars. If you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend you do. It’s due out on DVD, so why not treat yourself to a copy and when you sit down to watch it, as a tip, turn your speakers up to full! 😊
The film is a foot-stomping celebration of Queen, their music and their extraordinary lead singer, Freddie Mercury, who is superbly portrayed in an Oscar winning performance by Rami Malek.
Rami’s performance is nothing short of remarkable and it will have been due to months and months of painstaking research and practice that led to him understanding, getting into the mind of and eventually becoming Freddie Mercury.
The very same process is what is needed for all businesses to define their true target market, allowing them to create an avatar of their perfect customer.
Most businesses miss this vital step when constructing their marketing plan; instead of being laser focused, they define their target market as ‘anyone that wants my product or service.’ This is approach is like playing darts in the dark! You might manage to hit the board, but will rarely hit the number you want.
Having a clear, composite picture of your perfect customer is the marketing equivalent of method acting. You understand their wants and needs, anything that might keep them awake at night, what motivates them and, with this vital information, you can now craft a message that speaks directly to them.
It will also allow you to build an offer that they find irresistible, which inevitably leads to them following your very precise call to action.
So, if you would like to win an Oscar for your marketing, take a leaf out of Rami Malek’s book and become Freddie Mercury… or, in your case, become your perfect customer.
